GISM Veterinary Medicine Section – GISMVet

ABOUT US

  • The purpose of GISMVet (Gruppo Italiano Staminali Mesenchimali – Sezione Veterinaria) as a section of GISM, is to act as an open channel of communication and education for the scientific community and veterinary practitioners interested in mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) and their products.
  • GISMVet is formed by a group of doctors of veterinary medicine with multi-year research and clinical experience in MSCs therapies, aiming to develop a networking culture by promoting the progressive addition of new members among the professionals in the field.
  • The “One Health – One Medicine” concept highlighting the importance and symbiosis of Human and Veterinary Medicine, has always been promoted and supported by GISM as particularly relevant in the area of advanced regenerative therapies

MISSION

To create a scientific community addressing current topics and challenges present in the field of MSCs, as well as offer the necessary education for veterinary practitioners on the use of cell therapies in Veterinary Medicine, since the topic is not covered completely in the current training programs offered by Veterinary Schools.

OBJECTIVES

  • To actively communicate the latest scientific developments in the area of Veterinary Medicine for correct use of MSC-based therapies in veterinary patients as well as cover the scientific bases of their therapeutic action.
  • To foster a community of veterinary practitioners and scientists that would actively contribute in the initiatives and activities of the sections, through GISMVet as a mean of interaction, communication and growth.

FUTURE ACTIVITIES

  • Webinars in 2021 focusing on the basics and therapeutic use of MSCs organised for veterinary practitioners in Italy. Each webinar will be of the duration of 1 hour, and will be composed of an initial clinical-oriented talk, followed by a theoretical presentation underpinning the science of cell therapies for that particular application and will conclude with a journal club of a relevant scientific paper. The final part will be dedicated for a discussion with the attendees.
  • The events are scheduled for the following dates: 28th September, 5th October, 23rd November and 14th December and SPC credits will be awarded.
  • Interactions through social media platforms and the website of GISM in form of Q&A sessions, MSCs pills and bottom-up activities focused on specific topics of interest
